Ramshackles – Pair of Paupers

•February 28, 2013 • Leave a Comment

Whoops, sorry for the lack of posts recently, I’ve had a lot of work to do but thankfully my schedule is looking a little clearer now!

This song certainly comes under the description ‘short but sweet’ as this song, just under 2 minutes in length is quite the pretty one! Some subtle acoustics support the great vocals to make a good sounding track.

Fossil Collective – Let it Go

•February 25, 2013 • Leave a Comment

How had I forgotten about this beauty? A few days ago I looked into getting Fossil Collective tickets for their upcoming tour and managed to snag a couple of them for a show in April (so excited!). In preparation for that and for their debut album “Tell Where I Lie” dropping in just over a month, I’ve been taking a listen some of the songs they’ve already released.

‘Let It Go’ is probably my favourite song by Fossil Collective, not to mention that the video itself is beautiful. If you haven’t already, please check them out. You can find an older blog post by me on another of their songs ‘On and On’ here and their website here.

Enjoy! 🙂

EDIT– Since posting this I’ve found an exclusive listen to a new track from their debut album here!

Two Months of Music

•February 24, 2013 • Leave a Comment

Well here we are, two months in to our journey through all things indie. Thank-you so much for all of the views and follows this month, it’s been a great month for followers as I now stand at 25, and view count wise I regularly get a few views a day. Thanks for the support, every like, share and follow motivates me even more to search for and post about my favourite music around at the moment. Hopefully at least once this month I’ve found you a song that you have fallen in love with and can’t stop playing. If so, I’ve achieved my goal!

Just as I did last month, here are my top 3 highlights of February!

Wow. I’m so glad that I found out about Junip. Being a long time fan of José Gonzales, to find out that his solo career wasn’t all there was to his music, discovering Junip was like finding a treasure chest full of beautiful music from a singer/songwriter that I really enjoy listening to. Their newest Single, ‘Line of Fire’ is nothing short of breathtaking, and it is something that I’ve been listening to a lot over the past week or so. You can even get a free copy of it, and discover more about them on their website. With a new album out in April the future looks bright for this brilliant band. Check out my blog posts here and here for more.

Crystal Fighters

We’ve not heard much from them, not much at all but what we have heard sounds fantastic. After the success of  ‘Star of Love’ a follow up album could not come sooner, and the preview clip for “Wave” is the only snippet of sound that the Crystal Fighters have revealed about their new album. Nonetheless, given how good the first album was, and how those upbeat, harmonic tunes can be heard on the preview clip ‘Cave Rave’ is shaping up to be a really, really good album. I already have my tickets booked to see them later this year, so see you soon Crystal Fighters! You can find my blog posts about them here and here, and as always be sure to check out their website.

Over the past month I have heard the name Bastille thrown around a lot as he has snowballed into popularity over the past couple of month. Every song I’ve heard from him so far has made it onto my list of favourites. Each one is not only unique, but each tells a story and has a different feel to it. Bastille has the uncanny ability to turn everything he touches into gold. With the debut album dropping in a few short days, I wont be surprised if his popularity continues to rise further. I’m really looking forward to the album, and will almost definitely do a review on it once it is released. Find out more about this wonderful artists from my blog posts here and here, or go to his website.

So there you have it, three amazing bands all releasing new albums within the next few months. Finally, I can’t let February go by without a special mention about my favourite album of 2013 so far, Hummingbird so check out the blog post here for more on that. I hope that you’ve found something new and fresh for your ears to listen to today! Thanks again for your continued support and if you haven’t already, follow this blog to receive updates whenever I post new content. Month Three, here we come! 🙂

The Blazing Owls – Part Time

•February 22, 2013 • Leave a Comment

As promised, I hope to keep you well informed about the Blazing Owls and here is a first look at a song from their new EP. After being shown an early copy of ‘Part Time’ I knew that it had potential and I believe that this shows through in this version. I hope you enjoy their sound as much as I do, and if you do then please go ahead and follow them on soundcloud as it will help small bands like this get recognised! Hope you like it 🙂

Darren Korb – Build That Wall (Zia’s Theme)

•February 19, 2013 • Leave a Comment

Time for something a little different! Some of my longer term followers will be able to recall a few mentions of games in the past and that’s because there is a whole world of sound available within them. Each song brings a new atmosphere to a part of the game and can really change the feel or effect an area has on the player.

There are few games that do this better than Bastion, who’s use of narration and atmospheric sound has been praised across the gaming community. “Build That Wall” even won a VGA for ‘best song in a video game’ so it shows you just how powerful these songs can be.

I know that some of you out there wont be big gamers, but I urge you to give a few songs from the Bastion soundtrack a listen. It’s different to what I normally post but it’s excellent nonetheless. Enjoy!

Blogs to Watch – Alt Music Etc

Since starting this blog almost two months ago I’ve had the chance to check out some really great blogs that post similar music to me. One such example is “Alt Music Etc” who started their blog around the same time as me and seems to really be enjoying updating his blog.

The “30 songs you MUST have on your iPod” posts in particular contain some truly amazing music, most of which appears on my most played list in iTunes. He has also managed to get a few interviews with some really interesting bands, something I want to start introducing to my blog.

Anyway, if you like what I post and want some similar sounds from a great writer, hop over to Alt Music Etc here and you wont be disappointed! It would be great for him to get some more views/followers, he deserves them 🙂
